House Legislators Work on Military Aid and Border Bill Before Recess

The compromise bill would fund Ukraine and address U.S. border security.

Representative Don Bacon of Nebraska is one of four bipartisan members of Congress endeavoring to come up with legislation that offers a compromise between the bills that have already passed the House and Senate, as each of the chambers has rejected the other’s measures. They are trying to finalize the measure and get it to House Speaker Johnson before the congressional recess.

The new proposal would keep foreign military assistance but trim humanitarian aid. The measure would also have a provision that would again require asylum seekers to remain in Mexico while awaiting immigration hearings.

Congressman Bacon said a lot of his party would support it “if we could focus on military aid and do a clear pro-border security element like ‘Remain in Mexico.'” He added that there is enough bipartisan support, “So we’re gonna try it.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Representative Bacon and his colleagues as they attempt to introduce the compromise legislation.
  • For wisdom for Speaker Johnson and other House leaders as they consider the military aid and border security proposal.
